Great
Spots for Snorkeling on Kauai
Even if you're a first-timer, snorkeling in Hawaii is a "must." The crystal clear, aqua water provides unsurpassed views of fish, turtles, rays, eels, urchins, dolphins and more. And since some of the underwater wildlife is unique to the islands, you'll have an experience that cannot be reproduced elsewhere. But where to go? Here are some of our favorite Kauai snorkeling spots:
Anini Beach
The water at Anini is very shallow in parts, and the reef appears to go on forever at this beach with the With the largest reef on Kauai and ample amounts of shallow water, Anini offers a great opportunity for exploring the underwater nooks and crannies at the reef's edge. Anini is okay for beginners, but be careful during outgoing tides, which can be strong.
Ke'e Beach Park
Ke'e is best during the summer months and when the ocean is relatively calm. Not only will snorkelers encounter a wide variety of brightly colored fish, but they should be on the lookout for the Pacific green sea turtle. This is also a very pretty beach, with the famous cliffs of the Na Pali Coast rise in the distance and lush vegetation nearby.
Poipu Beach
Although some folks argue that the conditions that made Poipu a great snorkeling spot have changed as Mother Nature has changed the shape of the beach, Poipu remains popular among snorkelers. There is a sheltered cove that is ideal for newbies. And don't miss the view at sunset.
