Newbury/Cushing House Museum and
Garden 98 High Street

Stepping into the Cushing
House is like stepping back in time, to a
more gracious era that has somehow been
frozen in time within this beautiful
home. Visitors are led on tours of the
house in groups of ten or less, providing
an intimate view of the furnishings and
collections. The tour guides, mostly
local volunteers, are extremely
knowledgeable about the items you'll see
and can tailor the tour to match your
specific interests.
Some of our favorites
include the collection of Chinese export
items -- an indication of Newburyport's
role as a center of international trade
in years past; the magnificent canopy bed
in the master bedroom (note the
three-sided crib nearby); and the fun
assortment of 19th century toys. We also
love all the china and glassware
displayed in the dining room -- members
get to see many of these pieces in use at
the annual Holiday Party, which is reason
enough to join!
