South
Philadelphia
South Philadelphia is the
city's "Little Italy" and, as
such, is the source of a variety of
wonderful food.
Perhaps the best known is
that icon of Philly itself, the
cheesesteak. Whether you prefer Pat's
King of Steaks (1237 East Passyunk at the
intersection of 9th and Wharton Sts.) or
Geno's (across the street from Pat's),
you'll find the most authentic
cheesesteaks in South Philly.
The Italian Market (along
9th Street from Christian Street to
Washington Avenue) is another place
guaranteed to tempt your tastebuds with
five blocks of stalls selling roasted red
peppers, fresh mozzarella, cannolis,
fresh pasta and more.
Not surprisingly, South
Philadelphia has plenty of restaurants to
choose from. Whether you pick the
calamari with Italian gravy (that's red
sauce to Philadelphia Italians) at
Triangle Tavern (10th and Reed Streets),
the upscale atmosphere of Osteria Romana
(935 Ellsworth St.) or the singing
waiters at Victor Cafe (1303 Dickenson
Street), you're sure to have a great
time.
