The
California Academy of Sciences is one of
largest natural museums in the world.
It's three major sections cover the realm
of scientific exploration today: the
Morrison Planetarium explores the wonders
of the universe; the Steinhart
Aquarium focuses on the
ocean; and the natural history museum
contains exhibits of natural science and
phenomena on earth.
Shows under the
Planetarium's 65-foot dome provide a
great opportunity for being entertained
as you learn more about the universe.
Note that Planetarium fees
are in addition to Academy admission
charges. Planetarium tickets are sold at
the theater box office in the Earth &
Space Hall a half hour before show time.
A schedule posted outside the planetarium
announces show times and show titles.
Getting There
The Academy is located in
Golden Gate Park across the music
concourse from the Asian Art and de
Young museums, separated
by the bandshell, fountain and a grove of
sycamore trees. You can reach the Academy
easily via public transportation by
taking the #44 OShaughnessy bus
which stops right outside the front
entrance. The #71 Haight Noriega bus
which stops at the corner of Irving
Street and Lincoln Avenue and the
MUNI-line N-Judah which stops at the
corner of Irving Street and Ninth Avenue
bring you within a 10-minute walk of the
museum.
