The
California Academy of Science's Aquarium
showcases over 14,000 species including
rare tropical fish, crocodiles and other
reptiles, sharks, penguins and seals.

The California Academy of
Sciences is one of largest natural
museums in the world. It's three major
sections cover the realm of scientific
exploration today: the Steinhart Aquarium
focuses on the ocean; the Morrison
Planetarium explores the wonders of the universe; and
the natural history museum contains
exhibits of natural science and phenomena
on earth.
Getting There
The Academy of Sciences is
located in Golden Gate Park across the
music concourse from the Asian Art and de
Young museums, separated
by the bandshell, fountain and a grove of
sycamore trees. You can reach the Academy
easily via public transportation by
taking the #44 OShaughnessy bus
which stops right outside the front
entrance. The #71 Haight Noriega bus
which stops at the corner of Irving
Street and Lincoln Avenue and the
MUNI-line N-Judah which stops at the
corner of Irving Street and Ninth Avenue
bring you within a 10-minute walk of the
museum.
