NYC Haunted Halloween Happenings

Get in the mood for the eerie events to take place on Halloween by learning about Manhattan's famous ghosts and ghouls. Then, take advantage of all sorts of Halloween happenings in NYC the weekend of October 27-28: say "boo" at the Bronx Zoo; join the Pumpkin Festival in Central Park; enjoy the spine-tingling Maze of Horrors at Hudson River Park's Pier of Fear, or take in any of the other events described below. Want to get a sense of what real "magick" is all about? Then head out to one of the NYC magic shops that stock items for authentic witches. And when the big day comes, celebrate by visiting the dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History's Annual Spooktacular before heading down to Greenwich Village to see the annual Halloween parade.

Boo at the Bronx Zoo

What: Wear your costume and enjoy magic shows, spooky tales and music, and "spooktacular" arts and crafts.
When: Saturday & Sunday, 10/27-10/28, 11:30 am-4:30 pm; $8/Adults, Kids in costume free.
Where: Bronx River Parkway & Fordham Road, The Bronx

Ghouls and Gourds at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden
What: Dig up some fun with gourd musical instruments, tattoos, performances, and a costume parade.
When: Sunday, 10/28, 12-3:30 pm; Free with garden admission.
Where: 900 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn

Pumpkin Festival in Central Park
What: Come see the largest pumpkin display in NYC's history; bring a carved pumpkin to help break the world record!.
When: Saturday, 10/27, 12-8 pm; Free for all ages.
Where: enter Central Park at 72nd Street, Manhattan

Grand Central Terminal Halloweekend
What: Grand Central is going orange! From special pumpkin-themed treats at the Grand Central Market, to pumpkin carving demonstrations, to live performances by local musicians, to trick-of-treating in Vanderbilt Hall, there's lots of fun to be had throughout the weekend!
When: Saturday & Sunday, 10/27-10/28, times vary with event.
Where: Grand Central Terminal, 42nd Street, Manhattan

Pier of Fear at Hudson River Park
What: Older children will love the Maze of Horrors while the more faint of heart will enjoy storytelling, face painting, games and fortune tellers.
When: Saturday & Sunday, 10/27 & 10/28, 12-9 pm; Free.
Where: Pier 54, West 14th St. & West Side Highway, Manhattan

Halloween in Prospect Park
What: Celebrate Halloween with good old fashioned scary stories, creepy critters, and even a haunted carousel!
When: Saturday, 10/27, 12-3 pm; Free.
Where: Enter at Prospect Park Southwest & 16th Street, Brooklyn

The Great Pumpkin Party at the World Financial Center's Winter Garden
What: Wear your costume and have your picture taken with the Magical Pumpkin, go trick-or-treating, hear scary stories, and participate in pumpkin decorating and face painting.
When: Saturday, 10/27, 12-4 pm; Free.
Where: Battery Park City, West & Vesey Street, Manhattan

American Museum of Natural History's Annual Spooktacular
What: Don your costume to trick-or-treat with dinosaurs, mingle with favorite characters and do arts and crafts.
When: Wednesday, 10/31, 4-7 pm; $9.
Where: Central Park West & 79th Street, Manhattan
