Japan Day 2008 in NYC
On Sunday, June 1st, Central Park's East Meadow will be transformed into a Japanese Summer Festival, featuring the best of traditional and contemporary Japan with a wide range of family-friendly activities and powerful stage performances throughout the day. It is all part of Japan Day 2008, an event designed by the Japanese community of New York City to promote deeper understanding of Japanese culture.
The day kicks off at 8 am with a 4-mile road race, followed by a shorter Kids Run. Then, starting at 10 am and running to 5 pm, there will be live stage shows, free Japanese food and activity tents featuring video games, robots, origami, calligraphy traditional toys and games.
