Asia Society and
Museum
725 Park Avenue (at
70th Street)
Manhattan
Presents changing
exhibits on Asian art and culture, often
based on the Asia Society's collection of
nearly three hundred works of art, much
of which was donated by Mr. and Mrs. John
D. Rockefeller 3rd. The collection
includes masterworks from South,
Southeast, and East Asia, dating from
2000 B.C. to the 19th century, all
displayed in recently renovated
galleries. To learn more about what is
currently showing, visit the Society's web
site.
While you're there, don't
miss lunch (or dinner on Fridays) in the
Garden Court Cafe. This glass-enclosed,
sky-lit space is flooded with light and
features art installations, plus romantic
flowering vines and trees. The Garden
Court lobby also serves as a venue for
informal performances, readings,
discussions with artists, and other
special events. We also love the new
AsiaStore, which highlights items related
to current exhibitions and has one of the
largest collections of Asia-related books
we've seen.
