New Museum of
Contemporary Art
235 Bowery (at
Prince Street)
Manhattan
(212) 219-1222
This
museum focuses on emerging artists and
experimental ideas. Founded in 1977 as
the first museum in the United States
exclusively devoted to the work of living
artists, the New Museum shows some of the
most provocative art being made today.
The result? Business is
booming! In 2005, the New Museum begins
construction of a new home at 235 Bowery
at Prince Street. This 60,000 square foot
facility, designed by the Tokyo-based
firm Sejima + Nishizawa/SANAA, will
greatly expand the Museum's exhibitions
and programs. It is scheduled to open at
noon on December 1, 2007. To celebrate
the 30 years since the museum's founding,
the first 30 hours in the new space will
be free (until 6 pm on December 2nd).
For your free ticket and to
keep up with all that is happening, check
out the New Museum 's web site,
which features full descriptions of
current exhibitions, accompanied by color
images, as well as all the details
regarding hours, admission fees and
directions.
