Museum of Comic and
Cartoon Art
594 Broadway (between Houston and Prince
Streets), 4th Floor
Manhattan
(212) 254-3511
People
have been using pictures to tell stories
since back in the cave-dwelling days (can
you say "Lascaux"?)
The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art
(MoCCA) aims to chronicle the journey
from caves drawings to computer
animation, and includes the broad range
of comic and cartoon art -- "funny
paper" strips, graphic novels,
political cartoons, animated musicals and
the latest Japanese anime. Whether you
are a kid with an interest in the
drawings of "Scooby Doo" or
"Calvin and Hobbes," a teenager
fascinated by the role of superheros in
our culture, or an adult desiring to
learn about the growth of female cartoon
artists, this museum has something for
you.
Quite appropriately, MoCCA
is located in the original "Toon
Town" -- since New York City is the
birthplace of the modern comic strip and
comic book. To get there by subway, take
the B,D,F or V train to the
Broadway-Lafayette station; the R train
to Prince Street; or the 6 train to
Bleeker Street.
For details about hours,
admission and current exhibits, visit the
museum's web site.
