The Kinsale Tavern (Irish)
Third Avenue between 93rd and 94th Streets
Manhattan
(212) 348-4370

When you walk into the Kinsale Tavern, you truly feel like you have been beamed into a pub back in Kinsale, Ireland, the namesake of this Manhattan tavern. The exceptionally friendly staff, most of whom seem to be Irish natives, takes a teamwork approach to making your visit a pleasant one (none of that "it's not my table" stuff).

Aperitifs
The first thing you will notice upon entering the Kinsale is a huge offering of beers: 151 are available, and 35 are kept on tap at all times. Equally noticeable are the multitude of TV sets, tuned into anything from American football to European football (soccer) to Irish Rugby.

Beers on tap usually include old standards like Coors Light and Budweiser; Irish classics, such as Guiness and Killian's; and some unexpected ones, like Jenlain, a French beer. If you aren't a beer drinker, try the Woodpecker Cider, which can best be described as cider with a "kick."

Recommended Entrees
The menu features traditional Irish items, such as Shepherd's pie and Irish Sausage, as well as British favorites like fish and chips. The Kinsale also serves classic "American" food such as hamburgers, individual pizzas, and grilled chicken. The Kinsale's excellent super burger can hold its own with any burger we have had in Manhattan.

Don't stop with dinner. The Kinsale offers lunch every day and breakfast on weekends (a good time to catch an Irish rugby game on TV). The Irish breakfast features classic Irish foods such as blood pudding (a rich, dark sausage) as well as the usual egg dishes.

If there is a chill in the air, consider finishing off your meal with an Irish coffee. The Kinsale makes the best Irish coffee we've ever tasted, made with wonderfully fresh whipped cream.

Slainte! (Celtic for "cheers!")
